Petroleum equipment moves towards "intelligent manufacturing"

From conventional oil and gas field drilling and production to shale oil and gas field drilling and production, from barren deserts to vast deep seas, from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing"... As the first professional factory in China to produce petroleum machinery, PetroChina Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Baoshi Machinery") has become a microcosm of China's petroleum industry equipment manufacturing from scratch, from catching up to surpassing.

At the beginning of the founding of New China, the foundation of the petroleum industry was weak, and the petroleum machinery manufacturing industry was almost blank. Due to the fact that old mining areas such as Yanchang Petroleum and Yumen Oilfield are mainly concentrated in the northwest region of China, in order to meet the urgent need for various drilling and production equipment for oil extraction, Baoji Longhai Railway Baoji Locomotive Repair Factory, established in 1937, was ordered to switch to the oil industry in 1953, and Gemstone Machinery was born.

With the rapid rise of China's petroleum industry, it is urgent to build an independent petroleum industry system. China's petroleum drilling and production products are gradually developing from single machines to complete sets of petroleum machinery. Gemstone Machinery has undertaken its first major project since its establishment - the trial production of a 5000 meter heavy-duty DC electric drive drilling rig. In 1971, after more than five years of effort, this drilling rig was finally successfully tested in Jianghan Oilfield, with a drilling depth of 5163 meters, which was the largest well depth in China at that time.

Now entering the product exhibition hall of Gemstone Machinery, various drilling rig models such as 12000 meter deep well drilling rig, desert rapid transport drilling rig, low-temperature drilling rig, pipe string automation drilling rig, 3000 meter ultra long drill string automation drilling rig, and China's first one click 7000 meter automation drilling rig are displayed. Among them, the 12000 meter deep well drilling rig technology won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2012. China has become one of the few countries in the world that can independently develop ultra deep well drilling rigs and automated drilling rigs.

The vigorous development of onshore drilling rigs has established the leading position of gem machinery in the field of petroleum machinery manufacturing. Faced with an increasingly complex international situation, Gemstone Machinery is well aware of the need to firmly grasp the energy bowl in its own hands. So this state-owned enterprise located in the northwest inland of China began to anchor its gaze to the vast deep sea thousands of miles away. In 2008, Gemstone Machinery officially launched its "Ocean Strategy".

On the basis of thorough research and extensive review of materials, the researchers of Gemstone Machinery have continuously analyzed the working conditions and stress conditions on site, combined industry, academia and research, and finally achieved a series of breakthrough results with the spirit of "sharpening a sword in ten years".

Now, the National 863 Program and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology research projects led by Gemstone Machinery, such as "Research on Deep Water Drilling Riser System Technology", "Research and Key Component Development of Deep Sea Riser System for Marine Drilling Platforms", and "Development of Floating Drilling Compensation System", have successively come to an end, clearing the blind spots on the road to domestication of marine oil and gas equipment and writing a brilliant chapter in the process of domestication of high-end marine oil and gas equipment in China. At present, the operating water depth of marine oil and gas equipment such as deepwater drilling systems, floating fully hydraulic drilling rigs, and drilling riser systems developed by Gemstone Machinery can reach 3000 meters, filling multiple domestic gaps.

Wherever there are oil fields, there are 'gems'. In 1981, Baoshi Machinery first exported oil pumping units to the United States, setting a record for China's first export of petroleum equipment to developed countries and opening up the prelude to exploring international markets. Nowadays, the business footprint of Gemstone Machinery has spread to more than 60 countries and regions around the world, and the Chinese trademark of "Gemstone Machinery" and the English trademark of "BOMCO" have been registered in more than 30 countries and regions around the world.

As the only domestic enterprise with the "National Oil and Gas Drilling Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center", Baoshi Machinery's research and development strength and achievements are at the forefront of the industry. In the product exhibition hall of Gemstone Machinery, a 5000 meter fully trailer fast desert transport drilling rig model developed and mass-produced for UAE users is displayed. It is understood that this complete set of drilling rigs can achieve rapid transportation within a range of 48 hours and 10 kilometers, suitable for relatively flat deserts and Gobi. It can overcome the problems of time-consuming and laborious disassembly and assembly, low efficiency, etc. when moving the drilling rig, and achieve complete machine transportation. It is a drilling and mining tool tailored for Middle Eastern users. With this equipment, Gemstone Machinery has successively obtained three batches of contracts worth 6.5 billion yuan for 39 sets of desert rapid transit drilling rigs from the National Drilling Company (NDC) of the United Arab Emirates, becoming the largest project for China's heavy petroleum equipment exports.

Driven by technological innovation, the market share of gemstone machinery has steadily increased. At present, the drilling rigs of Gemstone Machinery account for over 85% of the domestic market share of in-service drilling rigs, over 35% of the new drilling rigs in the high-end North American market and major oil producing regions in the Middle East, and over 95% of the domestic market share of steel wire ropes. The marine equipment market has also made significant progress and become an important equipment provider for oil and gas exploration and development in China's offshore areas.
